About

Angela Köckritz wurde in München geboren. Sie studierte Politische Wissenschaften, Sinologie und Kunstgeschichte in Berlin, München und Tainan, Taiwan. Sie absolvierte ein Volontariat bei der Süddeutschen Zeitung und begann 2007 als internationale Reporterin und politische Redakteurin für DIE ZEIT zu arbeiten.

Von 2011 bis 2014 war sie China und Ostasien- Korrespondentin der ZEIT mit Sitz in Peking. Von 2017 bis 2020 Afrika Korrespondentin mit Sitz in Dakar, Senegal. Inzwischen lebt sie als freie Journalistin, Autorin und Analystin mit ihrer Familie in Berlin. Sie schreibt für Medien wie ZEIT, Spiegel, ZEIT Magazin, Geo, Brand Eins, mare und Think Tanks wie den European Council on Foreign Relations, Merics und Global Perspectives Initiative. 

Sie hat zwei Bücher geschrieben und co-hosted gemeinsam mit Qin Liwen den Podcast „Sea of Change. A Podcast about The New Great Game in the Indo-Pacific“. 

Ihre journalistische Arbeit wurde mehrfach ausgezeichnet. Sie erhielt den Reporterpreis, den Deutschen Journalistenpreis, den Merics Preis für herausragende Chinaberichterstattung, den Friedrich Vogel Preis für außergewöhnliche Wirtschaftsberichterstattung sowie den Reporterpreis der LCB Bank. 

2023 war sie Taiwan Fellow an der Chengchi Universität in Taipei und Senior Fellow beim China Think Tank Merics, 2020 Journalist in Residence am Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung. Sie ist Mitglied der deutsch-taiwanischen Dialog-Platform, Alumni der Zukunftsbrücke und war Robert-Bosch-Stipendiatin. 

Angela Köckritz spricht Deutsch, Englisch, Chinesisch, Französisch und Spanisch. Ihr Bayrisch ist leider nicht sehr gut. 

Sie fährt gerne Rollschuh, liebt es zu tanzen und wird schwach bei scharfem Feuertopf.

Angela Köckritz was born in Munich. She studied political science, sinology and history of art in Berlin, Munich and Tainan, Taiwan. She completed a two year traineeship (Volontariat) at Süddeutsche Zeitung, the biggest German quality daily newspaper. Then started working as an international reporter and political editor for DIE ZEIT, the biggest German weekly newspaper, in 2007.

From 2011 to 2014 she was China and East Asia correspondent for DIE ZEIT based in Beijing. From 2017 to 2020 Africa correspondent based in Dakar, Senegal. She now lives in Berlin as a freelance journalist, author and analyst with her family. She writes for media such as DIE ZEIT, Spiegel, ZEIT Magazin, Geo, Brand Eins, mare and think tanks such as the European Council on Foreign Relations, Merics and Global Perspectives Initiative.  

She has written two books and co-hosts the podcast „Sea of Change. A Podcast about the New Great Game in the Indo-Pacific“ together with Qin Liwen. 

Her journalistic work has been awarded several prizes, such as the Reporter Prize, the German Journalism Prize, the Merics Prize for outstanding China reporting, the Friedrich Vogel Prize for excellent economic reporting and the Reporter Prize of the LCB Bank.

In 2023 she was a Taiwan fellow at National Chengchi University in Taipei, and a Senior Fellow at China think tank Merics. In 2020 she wasJournalist in Residence at the Social Science Research Center Berlin. She is a member of the German-Taiwanese Dialogue Platform, alumni of Zukunftsbrücke and was a fellowship holder of Robert Bosch Foundation. 

Angela Köckritz speaks German, English, Chinese, French and  Spanish. Her Bavarian unfortunately leaves much to be desired. 

She loves to rollerskate and dance and has a weak spot for spicy hot pot.
